Slow parity checks and disk rebuilds

I upgraded my system from 5 to the most current beta.  All went well.  I noticed one of my drives was getting a thumbs down so I decided to replace it.  I had to do this a couple of months ago and the disk rebuild took about 14 hours.  This time it took a day and a half.  Ran a parity check this morning...  The system tells me it will be done in a day and a half as well.  Why the major slow down?
