May 9, 201511 yr I know someone brought this up in the past but I don't think it went anywhere. I'm assuming with the advent of hurricane's X base image this might now be easier?

May 9, 201511 yr Author I've never liked TeamSpeak. Out of the top 3 VoIP "gaming chat room" products (Ventrilo, Mumble, and TeamSpeak) you'll almost always find TeamSpeak ranked dead last by the people that actually use them. Mumble is also nice, and open source, so I've added it to the subject, as I'd be just as happy with it. I also understand this is a very limited use case compared to a lot of Dockers, so I'd completely understand if nobody is interested in developing and maintaining a Ventrilo or Mumble docker. Just throwing it out there in case someone with the skills would consider giving it a go.
May 9, 201511 yr Author Just realized there is a Mumble Docker in coppit's repository. Consider this request closed.
May 9, 201511 yr Hmm, after the release of 6.0, maybe eric and I can come up for air and work on ventrillo. As far as comparing the top 3, I guess it comes down to what you really need. For me, all I cared about was getting it up and running fast and having good voice quality. Meets my requirements so I didn't bother looking at alternatives.
May 9, 201511 yr I gave ventrilo server a shot, but couldn't get it to work. The last package is from 2008 and it is 32bit only. Even though I installed all the 32bit compatibility libraries, I still get an error trying to run their script.

Even though I installed all the 32bit compatibility libraries, I still get an error trying to run their script. i couldn't get a 32 bit app to work on unraid either, there's no 32 libraries on the host anymore in V6 and information i've been given is it won't work without a recompile of the kernel. but then again they said we couldn't run x-apps in docker, so although i'm not holding out much hope, i've not entirely abandoned looking.
May 9, 201511 yr I guess a fallback option would be to do this in a VM, but seems like using a cannon to kill a mosquito.
May 9, 201511 yr I ran it on Phusion. I exec'ed into one of the containers and tried the install. Followed this guide, too: http://corlewsolutions.com/articles/article-2-setup-ventrilo-server-3-0-3-on-32bit-or-64bit-ubuntu-any-version Before the 32bit binary libraries, I was getting the same "No such file or directory" error. After the libraries I started getting "ventrilo_srv: 1: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string" Jonp is right. Phusion is probably missing some library or dependency that a full ubuntu install has. Maybe I'll try it in a vm running full ubuntu and see if that works
May 10, 201511 yr Got it to work in ubuntu. I'll fire up a docker container with an ubuntu base i got 32 bit apps to work on my docker server running ubuntu 14.04 , with 32 bit libraries installed and they don't work on unraid. i also tried some of the 32 bit hacked containers with 64 bit libraries, again they work in ubuntu vm as docker host but not in unraid. hopefully you'll have better luck than me.
May 10, 201511 yr I give up. It works in a full ubuntu 14.04 vm, but not in an ubuntu 14.04 docker (I even tried to install some of the common differences like gnome). It obviously has some dependency that the docker ubuntu image is not meeting, but because it is a binary, I don't know of a way to tell. I would recommend mumble or teamspeak, since both have dockers available already by coppit and binhex respectively
May 10, 201511 yr Author Yes. Earlier in the thread I stated that I had just discovered there was a Mumble docker by coppit, and to consider the request closed. Thank you for your efforts anyway. Is there a tag I should change the original subject to to denote this is no longer being requested?

Is there a tag I should change the original subject to to denote this is no longer being requested? getting 32bit apps running on unraid could open up another echelon of interesting containers, but it looks increasingly unlikely. but never say never.
