HDD failure

Featured Replies

I was wondering if someone could please look through my logs and help determine whether this is just a HDD failure or if there is an issue with the SAS card some other hardware. This is a newly built system. I'd like to have all the kinks worked out before I put into production.

Basically, md4 (sdc) has been precleared 3 times and all 3 times it has passed. Unfortunately, when I go to stop the array at a later date and time unRAID lists the HDD as "Not installed". This is why I have precleared the device as many times as I have. Thanks everyone. (Line 430 or so I believe is where the error commence)

It's definitely losing connection to the drive. I'd suspect a cable/interface issue, not necessarily the drive. Try a different cable and/or move the drive to a different port. When you preclear the drive are you doing it with the drive in its current position in the array?  In other words are you using the same cable and port to do the preclear?

It also wouldn't hurt to post a SMART report for the drive in question.

Yes drive hasn't moved. I have done a couple of smart reports and they all come back with a passed. I will try and move the drive and see what happens.

SMART reports, or SMART tests?  A drive can pass a SMART test and still have other issues revealed by examination of the SMART report.
