Plain tower case?

Featured Replies

I think I currently have the Coolermaster 590 case. They don't make it anymore. I like it because it can hold 3 hard drive cages and is a pretty much no frills case that just works. And for hard drive cages you need a really open air type case with no brackets in the way and fan supports and all that. Is there a comparable case to the Coolermaster 590 out there? All the cases I've seen so far have built-in HD racks that don't move out completely, fan supports that are welded in and aren't really an open air type case. Although, if I do build a new system and I start with 8TB drives I may not get involved in HD cages at all anymore. Very expensive for a new build with 8TB drives to mimic what I have now. I would need at least 3  8TB drives, maybe 4 to have just as much free space as my current server. I'm not a big fan of Seagate, so will check to see what else is out there as in 8TB drives.

What is wrong with just keeping the 590?

Yes, I did read that and it is still hard to tell which and what cases will accept hard drive cages. Recently I ordered a large tower case and it had internal brackets inside for hard drives which couldn't be removed. In that case hard drive cages would not work. I do not want to limit myself with a cage I cannot install drive cages. And several on that list in that post looked like they had some internal brackets that may not be removed, hence no drive cage compatibility.

I either wait and just keep my current box and deal with it and wait for more 8TB drives to come out, then I won't need cages at all or try and find a fully bare "inside" case.

Several of the cases listed do as you say have brackets inside which cannot be removed, have you heard of a Dremel?  8)

I took one to my Antec 900 and it now houses 3x 5x 3.25" caddies.
