xxredxpandaxx
So I got my new 8tb hdd in today and started to preclear it and the write speed seems quite fast to me and i was wondering if something could be wrong?? Or am i just being stupid? Quote Link to comment
garycase
Seems reasonable for the outer cylinders => remember this disk has an areal density of 1.33TB/platter Quote Link to comment
xxredxpandaxx
true, I guess I'm just used to my WD green drives which now that I think about it spin a bit slower than the seagate. Does the drive fill up the outer part of all the platters before moving onto the inner parts? If so I assume that towards the end of the writing I will see something closer or below 100? ALL hard drives start writing at the outermost cylinders and move towards the inner ones ... where the speeds are notably slower. Quote Link to comment
pkn
... If so I assume that towards the end of the writing I will see something closer or below 100? Yep. This drive shows ~190 MB/s at the beginning, ~90 MB/s at the end, ~140MB/s average. Quote Link to comment
xxredxpandaxx
Well I am pleasantly surprised at the speed these drives write at. I just hope they last as long as my WD green drives have. Quote Link to comment
pkn
Well I am pleasantly surprised at the speed these drives write at. The speed will be nowhere near that good once the array becomes bigger. The slowest ship dictates the convoy speed.... I just hope they last as long as my WD green drives have. We all do Quote Link to comment
