hey guys, i know ppl have managed to setup virtual machines on their unraid box's..

 

i'm actually thinking of doing this myself and setup windows home server on it

 

what my question is whats the easiest way to do it.. install windows and run unraid under a virtual machine or vise versa... unraid is definatly priority 1 for the machine to look after, and whs 2nd..

 

so using that logic whs should go onto the virtual machine, but how easy hard is it to setup a virtual machine under unraid thats my main concern

It has been a while since I have read up on unRAID and virtual machines.  I know that you can set up virtual machine on an unRAID machine but I don't think unRAID itself has ever been virtualized, or if it has there was some serious hit to IO performance because of all the layers that were being dealt with.

 

Your best bet is probably to build an unRAID machine and then use the great tutorial in the customization thread to get your virtual machines up and running.
