A way to set aside allocated HD space?

A way to pre-allocate a set amount of hard drive space aside whether it is a % or GB size. What ever is easiest. It would be great for those that rather not write on the outer rings or may have "Until Full" on but want to leave 10% open or what not.

 

Just a thought, and if its already included then just disregard this.

Actually you ALWAYS want to write on the outer cylinders -- that's the fastest part of the disk      But it's also the first part that's allocated, so I'm sure what you mean is the innermost cylinders (which are the slowest).

 

You can keep a disk from using the last XX amount of space by setting a "min free" to the amount of space you want it to keep free.    This won't necessarily do what you've suggested, however -- if the disk is actively used and a lot of files are added/modified/erased the free space could be fragmented throughout the disk and the actual "used" sectors could include many of the innermost cylinders.

 

The most absolute way to ensure you don't use the innermost cylinders of a disk would be to use the SetMax function for a disk and effectively make it a smaller disk.    e.g. if you used SetMax to make a 4TB disk effectively a 3.5TB disk, then the innermost 500GB wouldn't be visible to the OS, so that part would never be used.
