unRAID GUI Downloads Pretty Slow

Since we have to same system it would be interesting to see if you get slower download speeds if you stub your add on NIC card. Feel free to not try this until you get back however, I am in no rush.

I'm already doing that with my Intel NIC, you want me to try with the onboard?

So unRAID is only using your onboard NIC correct? If so then that is exactly what I am doing. I am currently in the process of making an Ubuntu live USB so we will se.

Unraid is only using my onboard NIC and a I have a single bridge on it for VMs (vm0) the docker0 bridge and my Intel dual NIC is being passed through to pfsense. (Although pfsense is not in use - everytime I go into the interface to set it up I get scared and do something else instead ;) )

Well using a Ubuntu live USB directly connected to the modem and only NIC plugged in is my onboard NIC gives me full download... So it is either unRAID or my pfsense VM... However my money is on something weird with the pfsense VM because your system seems to be doing just fine and we basically have the exact setup. Hmmmm

I'm having a similar problem, but not sure if it's exactly the same. My GUI is incredible slow just to go from page to page in Unraid. Each page takes about 1 minute to load. Is yours doing this?

If so, It seems like you're running Unraid within a VM, correct?

Have you tried not using the ESXi and just booting directly into Unraid? Did it make any difference? When I do that I have no issues and Unraid is super fast in the browser.

If any of this sounds familiar, please attach your logs so I can compare. Thanks.

Archedraft isn't running unraid in ESXI, he's running Unraid as host and pfsense as a KVM guest.

Not sure what you're seeing is the same issue, arche is talking about downloading in Unraid itself not webui loading.

I don't think ESXI is officially supported by LimeTech but there is a forum specifically for those running Unraid as a guest so it might be worth posting over there.

Well I just built a nice little dedicated pfSense box and stopped the pfSense VM. I was really sure that this would solve the issue of slow download speed but it is still SSLLOOWW whenever unRAID downloads new updates from the plugin manager.

Ran another speed test today...

/dev/null           100%[=====================>]  11.00M   186KB/s   in 81s

So in summary: I have tried switching ethernet cables, different ethernet ports on both unRAID and my switch, and stopped using a pfSense VM...

Why is it downloading so slow???????????

Seeing as I have an identical Motherboard, must be either a faulty NIC or something to do with your Unraid setup?

I figured it! I had my pfSense box setup to send unRAID's traffic through a VPN. Removed all those rules and it is all kind of fast now! Not really sure why I was routing unRAID's traffic through a VPN anyways... Also not sure why I didn't try that in the first place  :o

Were you doing the same in your pfsense VM?

Were you doing the same in your pfsense VM?

Yeah, so it would guess that the pfSense VM would work just fine.

Well in that case you don't really need your new pfsense box so I'll send you my address. [emoji6]

Well that would have work if I hadn't already sold my wife on the idea that with the new box she will be able to fix the internet by herself... She wasn't a huge fan of the internet being a VM.

You expect us to believe your wife can use pfsense....

Maybe your wife is more technologically gifted than mind but even so...

Shall I send my address via PM? ;)

Lol, her use pfSense... no way. She does have her own log in that only gives her access to reboot pfSense. That said 999/1000 times she will just pull the plug on both the modem and now the pfSense box. She is pretty decent with computers, despite all the crap I give her  :P

That's good because I still haven't figured out pfsense, I'd be worried if an Unraid wife was ahead of me....

Even if that was the case, I'm sure the unRAID community would not shame you.. too much  ;D

Easy...

I'm not the one that has had a thread running for two months on slow downloads because they forgot they were routing all their traffic through a VPN!  ;D

Ouch, I see what you did there.

Sorry mate, couldn't resist! :)

It was well played. "If you can't take it don't dish it"
