Mobo sata vs sata sas card

I have the server in my signature. I would like to get rid of the sas2lp and use the mobo sata. Good idea? If I use the mobo sata would I need a more powerful cpu?

 

I would like to get a asus gene vii eventually as that has 8 sata ports and my gene v only has 6.

    Why?

     

    The CPU's not involved in the transfers between the SATA ports and memory, so that makes no difference.

     

    The only advantage to removing the MV8 is you'd save a bit of power, since that card wouldn't be installed any more.  But there's NO performance advantage to moving to the motherboard ports.
