vm internet speed slower?

Featured Replies

I just installed ARK: Survival Evolved from steam on my gaming pc and I was downloading at 10MB/s and now im installing it on my windows vm to set up a server for the game and the speeds are half of what I was getting on my other computer. Is this a normal thing or is something set up wrong?

So you're downloading the content again from scratch, right?  The only thing that has changed is you are now doing this over VNC to a Windows VM on your unraid server.  Ok, is your server attached to the same switch/router as your gaming pc?  Can you verify that other LAN traffic not be interfering with your download stream (e.g. another download occurring on another device at the same time)?  Are you sure the download server isn't just going through a different peak usage period where the download slowdown couldn't be from their side?

Even with an emulated driver, your download speed should never be impeded by a VM really.
