Hi All,

First post on the forum! I've decided that Im planning for an unRAID setup for a home DIY NAS. My plan for it is to store my media, photos, video, and want to be centrally accessible. I am thinking of using unRAID for it and want to install PLEX server so it can transcode my media.

I suspect I may have some HDDs that might be varying in size hence the plan for unraid

Based on the below, can anyone recommend any changes here?

Can anyone estimate the power consumption of the below - I plan on having it run 24x7?

MOBO: Asrock H97M-ITX (ac) - 5 SATA ($135)

CASE: Fractal node 304

PSU: Corsair 80+ Gold CS450M or Seasonic G-450 PSU

CPU: Intel G3250 $77

RAM: 8G Single 1600 Patriot-S $69

HDDS: Have a bunch of 4TB Red drives

Thanks

You need to be a bit more detailed than "a bunch of drives"

You might want to check out this p/s calculator.  Its the best that I've found, since it also gives the requirements for the 12V rail rather than merely stating a general wattage required for the P/S

Power consumption with drive spun down will be around 20W.  About 18W for a B85M-Eco with an i3-4530, but I'm using 240V so I get a bit more PSU efficiency.

If you're planning on more than one HD transcode at a time, you'd be better off with a faster CPU.  How many are you planning on needing at one time?

Sorry for 3rd post in a row, but it just registered on me that you're looking at the Node 304 case and not the 804.  Although the 304 will take an ATX sized power supply, it will be really cramped in that small case.  Take a look at the small form factor PSUs by Silverstone.  They are a bit more expensive, but the SFX size will allow for easier construction and improved airflow.  I don't have firsthand experience with this case, but that's the advice from folks that do.

Definitely good advice r.e. using an SFX power supply.    ANY ITX case will be very cramped with a full size ATX power supply, regardless of whether or not the manufacturer SAYS it will work.    You'll be far happier with the "feel" of the inside of the case with an SFX unit.    The Silverstone 300w and 450w SFX units are excellent power supplies.
