How not to shut down

Featured Replies

I just found out about unRAID about a week ago and started to piece together parts to build a server.  I piece all the parts to build one similar to the MD-1510/LI.  Only difference is I'm using a cpu i got already which is a core2 duo 2.8 and 2gb of unknown type of memory from a dell computer and an 500watt OCZ modular power supply.  Before unraid i have tried 2 drobo with drobo share which is too slow.  Also tried Hp media server which I'm gonna continue to use with the unraid server.  The Hp server will run 24/7 cause of its low power usage.  The unraid server will be turn on and off when i need to use it.  The question i have is by turning on and off the server often is this bad for it?  Also i read that its bad to turn it off by hitting the power button so what is the easiest and best way to power the server off and on.  Thanks.

Most of us use the Web Management page to click the Stop button to stop the array, then click the Power Off button to turn it off.  But as of unRAID v4.5-beta5, the server's own power button should gracefully power down the server, IF your server fully supports it (ACPI is working correctly).  Most do.
