June 9, 201511 yr v6 RC4 Long story short I dropped my parity disk. Likely due to pebkac. However even though the warning message in the GUI was "Parity is invalid" it was paired with a very non intimidating yellow triangle. IMO a complete parity failure deserves a much stronger RED icon as it is possibly the most serious error and not a "soft" error as yellow typically designates.

June 9, 201511 yr Please don't post nonsense in this board. Edit: NAS - not referring to your post (yet), just the two replies that I deleted.

The drive was not avaialble to mount. Possibly a motherboard, disk or card error but also as likely it was me making some mistake in experimentation/mounting drives external to array.

Can you show me a screen shot?
June 9, 201511 yr Author No sorry I cant I am 55% into a new parity and never took any notes (as it was late and I was stressed at work). I never even raised a ticked on the drop as I immediately just started looking to bring parity online. In fact I only raised a ticket at all due to the "triangle" thing.

Normally if parity (or any other disk) fails, you will see a red X. You also should see a red X if parity is not present at all. The only times you should see a yellow triangle for parity is: - you have installed a parity disk or replaced a bad parity disk and array is Stopped - after array is Started it will be a yellow triangle until parity sync completes - if you cancel parity sync it will remain a yellow triangle until you get around to starting parity sync and let it finish (This is behavior as of -rc5).
June 9, 201511 yr Author I just dont know. All i can say is that when i stopped the array the disk was not available to apply to the parity slot in unRAID. Once I rebooted the disk was available and parity could be calculated again. Sounds to me like this is an edge case whereas I started this ticket thinking it was a general (simple) icon replacement report.
June 9, 201511 yr - if you cancel parity sync it will remain a yellow triangle until you get around to starting parity sync and let it finish Maybe this state is worth the red x as well? No, a red X means a device is Missing or Bad, yellow means the device itself is ok but data contained on it is not. Maybe we'll make the icon a bit larger and brighter but we are not changing it. I wanted to determine if there was an issue having to do with when the icon is displayed, not what it looks likes, this is not the place to discuss this.
June 9, 201511 yr v6 RC4 Long story short I dropped my parity disk. Likely due to pebkac. I'm suffering a bit from pebkac myself - also been a long day - the problem is you are running -rc4. The status indicators and some logic dealing with how they're displayed has been changed in -rc5.
June 9, 201511 yr Author I suggest we close this one as solved then and should it ever come up again I will raise a proper ticket on the core problem. Appreciated.
June 9, 201511 yr Author Just for completeness the parity completed and all is back to normal. Hopefully this was just a gremlin.
