KeeWay
I am on v5.0.6 and have setup one user share called Movies (split level 2) then under that I put my TV_Shows folder there. Now running low on disk space found out that the cache drive is filling up with TV shows because the disks were the TV show is located is filled to 100% capacity and has zero byte files but the good files are still on the cache drive and work fine. so if i create a share called TV-Movies is there any way to just redirect the folder TV_Shows to the new share? or would i just move them by hand? if i have to move them by hand how would that work being that i have low disk space left (95% used so far) and they are already on the array across different disks? thanks James Link to comment

KeeWay
yes i see the delima but until i get my current 2 tb drives upgraded to either 3-4TB drives i need to utilize all left over space across all disks not leave them stuck on the cache drive and i believe that the new share with split level 3 will help in spreading out the files/folders and be a better layout as well. thanks James Link to comment
trurl
You will have to move the existing files manually. Be sure to use only the disks, not the user shares, when doing the move to avoid the User Share Copy Bug. So, probably more trouble than you thought since you will have to find them on each drive. Another possibility would be to leave the existing files where they are, but move the files on cache to the new share on cache, and then mover will take care of moving them to the array. You should probably stop writing to your server until you get more capacity. Link to comment
KeeWay
trurl thanks, so how is this for my game plan? Clean up some disk space then let the mover complete moving everything off the cache drive then manually move the folders from the disks directly to the new share (with cache disabled) and the system will spread them out again using the new split level settings. thanks James Link to comment

The new share will have a different path so the bug will not occur. The thing you have to avoid is doing something like moving from /mnt/disk1/shareA to /mnt/user/shareA, or moving from /mnt/user/shareA to mnt/disk1/shareA, since these could be the same location and you would get the file truncated. But if you are moving from /mnt/disk1/shareA to /mnt/user/shareB or even /mnt/user/shareA to /mnt/user/shareB you should be OK. Link to comment
