sparklyballs
I've probably got a lot of unneeded junk flapping around on my usb drive and with the upcoming iminent release of 6.0 I have a question. I'm looking to take the opportunity to clean house so to speak and get a "clean" install of 6.0. What files do I absolutely need to keep (aside from the license key) so I can format the USB and add back later. Link to comment
CHBMB
I've reinstalled from a completely blank drive before now, but you have to setup all your shares configs again and whatever you do make sure appdata is set to cache only, that would be a really stupid mistake to make that i would never do.... Super_Chicken
When did setting an appdata share as cache only become something to do? I got my unraid machine off a friend at V5 and has it on V6b12 for the longest time. I've upgraded to V6rc3 and now my sab no longer works due to the permissions issue and I feel this is the reason. But don't overwrite the "go" file in config Copy ONLY the files from your saved v5 config folder to the flash drive's config folder. Note: You may need to grant permission to overwrite existing files. Note: if you have copied any plugin or package files into your config folder (such as cache_dirs.sh), do NOT copy them to your new config folder! Then copy ONLY the files from your saved config/shares folder to the flash drive's config/shares folder. Do NOT restore any other files or folders, especially any plugin files! If correctly done, you should have a go file in your config folder that has a size of 71 bytes. unRAID V6 requires that the .key file be in the config folder, not in the root. Previous versions allowed it to be in the root of the flash drive, but that is no longer true. If you have multiple key files, it is best to make sure that only the correct one is in the config folder with the .key extension. Link to comment

If you don't have your appdata in either a hidden folder on cache (name starting with .) or in a share set to Use cache disk: Only, then it will get moved to the array. Nothing to do with permissions. Link to comment

I hope you don't actually only keep the files you need before formatting the drive, but rather copy everything off the usb and only copy back the files you need on the clean stick If you don't have your appdata in either a hidden folder on cache (name starting with .) or in a share set to Use cache disk: Only, then it will get moved to the array. Nothing to do with permissions. I wonder why doesnt LT just create a special/preset directory /mnt/cache/docker and defaults docker.img and appdata there? Link to comment

I believe my history file (18tb) got corrupted. Link to comment
trurl
... I believe my history file (18tb) got corrupted. I assume this is a typo of some sort, since unRAID does not allow a single file to span drives. Link to comment

RobJ
There is a new section now in the Upgrading to UnRAID v6 guide, the Files on flash drive section, representing to the best of our knowledge what should be on the flash and what should be deleted. However, the emphasis is on upgraders from previous versions, so doesn't mention the new files that v6 creates on the flash drive. I still hope it's useful for others though. Link to comment
