dikkiedirk
I updated from RC2 to RC6a through the webgui. After reboot I see a red X next to the parity disk, meaning parity disk disabled, and no free slots to add additional disks. I have 18 data disks and the webgui says 19 disks in array. What should I do to fix this? Link to comment
dikkiedirk
Thanks, here it is. tower1-diagnostics-20150615-2237.zip Link to comment
dgaschk
Replace drive and SATA cable. Run Manufacturers diagnostics on the drive. Link to comment
dikkiedirk
Did you find anything in the diagnostics files that indicates that the disk is malfunctioning? Or could it be a loose cable? Link to comment
itimpi
Did you find anything in the diagnostics files that indicates that the disk is malfunctioning? Or could it be a loose cable? The syslog shows that write to the parity disk were failing which would explain why the disk was marked as disabled. This could definitely be just a loose SATA/Power cable - that is normally the first thing that it is recommended is checked. Not sure of what one has to do after unRAID has disabled a parity disk. My guess would be that you need to do something like: [*]Unassign the parity disk and start the array in unprotected mode [*]Stop the array and assign the disk; Starting the array would now cause a parity build to happen. [*]When the parity build completes run a parity check to ensure that the initial parity build was without error. The above would be the parity equivalent to a rebuild of a data disk. Ideally one would use a different disk to the current parity disk for rebuilding parity so that you can put the current disk through one or more pre-clear cycles to test it out before using it again, but in practise that may not be possible so you try with the current drive. You may want to wait to see if others have any suggestions although I do not see how the above steps can cause any damage to the data disks (assuming they are all functioning fine at the moment). dikkiedirk
I did assign a different drive as parity and it is rebuilding. All drives are in SM drive cages and attached to M1015 controllers. I started a preclear run on the failed disk. Let see how it goes. A preclear run will find a bad cable too I guess. Link to comment
