Ii3-4130 - still okay for Unraid v6 or time to upgrade?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if a i3-4130 is enough for Unraid v6 with 8Gb of ram, or should I upgrade both?

It should be fine.    The only key feature an i3 is missing is vt-d, but as far as CPU "horsepower" goes, it's fine.

yah i don't see myself currently doing anything that needs VT-d. Just running plex, sonnar, and sab

This says your i3-4130 (4146) is about 2/3 of my FX-6300 (6352), and my 6300 is plenty fast to run a rather big array (10 drives) and a whole bunch of dockers (7) and a few VMs (3) without breaking a sweat. The only thing I'd worry a bit about is if you had a bunch of people on Plex at once, since transcodes can really eat your CPU. If Plex is just for you, then you're probably good with your 4130 more or less forever.

I have a i3 4130 running all the things in my signature.

The only thing I am missing is the VMs. But so far I had no need for them, other than curiosity...

The 4130 has never been a problem.
