landS
Given the pending Win 10 upgrade to Win 7 locking the license to a single piece of hardware... Will I be able to move the VM without passthrough to a new physical motherboard/processor? Will I be able to up Ram, CPU Cores, and/or later pass-through a GPU? WITHOUT requiring a fresh activation (which may require paying a license fee each time) Thanks crew Link to comment
garycase
Good question ... I'm also interested in the answer vis-à-vis KVM VM's. I know with VMware virtual machines, you can MOVE them to other hosts with no issue. [if you COPY them you need to re-activate] Link to comment
mossiemosforth
You can move the VMs no problem, without re-ativation. I've just moved my unraid setup to new hardware, including a couple of windows VMs without issue. Basically it boils down to the virtual hardware not changing at all, even though the physical is. Windows doesn't see any change, therefore no need to re-activate. You can also move ones that have devices passed through, but you'll almost certainly have to amend the pci addresses in the xml file (i managed this also quite easily). Link to comment
