RobJ
The drive looks fine, should be good. The only thing that concerns me is the Raw_Read_Error_Rate, which dipped down to 64, but is now back to 83. Might want to monitor that. Quote Link to comment
Sledgehamma
On 12/29/2016 at 4:50 PM, Inolvidable said: I have only found 4 SMART reports from either 8TB or 10TB Ironwolfs with enough working hours to get stable normalized values for (1)RRER (7)SER and (195)HER. It is still an small sample to make general assumptions but the data seem to support the hypothesis I posted here that SMART values for the Seagate 8TB drive ST8000DM002 (heavily tested by BackBlaze) could be used as a guide of "normal SMART values" for the new 8TB and 10TB Ironwolf series. The behaviour of Seek Error Rate seems typical for a Seagate drive: A worst value of 60 and a normalized value somewhere between 70 and 85. The Read Raw Error Rate also seem normal compared to the data I have so far. The (195) Hardware_ECC_recovered value is the one that I really want to figure out before I pull the trigger on the ironwolfs. Those values so close to zero worried me. However they seem to be normal for the Seagate ST8000DM002 and for the Ironwolfs I have seen so far. Sorry for my late reply. Thank you very much! My fourth IronWolf is preclearing now. This time I'm using the preclear plugin. Will post results once I get them Here are the SMART reports of my three drives after using them for a few months. They have been on 24/7 and with the purchase of my third drive the setup is Raid5. I hope this is not considered as offtopic. Edited April 4, 2017 by Sledgehamma Quote Link to comment

Spies
Can you run this script under any Linux distribution or just unraid? I have 4, 3tb drives to preclear. Quote Link to comment
Frank1940
I just tested this script using unRAID version 6.5.0 and it completed without error. I collected the report on this preclear operation using grep and it looked identical to those reports which I had previously generated by the same command. This script was version 1.15 and I modified it per Joe L.'s instructions to work with version 6.2.X and later. With a no pending sectors at start and over 100 pending sectors by the end of the test, I would never consider using this drive in any server of mine. (Some folks may tell you to run another preclear cycle and see if they clear up, but I would be more worried that this disk is already in a failure mode. Remember, you have to be able to read every sector on every disk if you are going to rebuild a failed drive....) With only 6500 hours on it, it may be eligible for a warranty return. JDGJr
Earlier this month I bought a WL 6TB drive that cleared fine, so I bought a second, but it looks like this one is failing. I'm using the same power/sata ports/cables as i used for the first drive. Any reason to try something different, or should I send this one back? I ran the clear script twice - first post-read failed at about 86%, but 2nd seems to have failed immediately. ############################################################################################################################ # # # unRAID Server Preclear of disk WOL240387533 # # Cycle 1 of 1, partition start on sector 64. # # # # # # Step 1 of 5 - Pre-read verification: [12:11:59 @ 136 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 2 of 5 - Zeroing the disk: [12:02:34 @ 138 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 3 of 5 - Writing unRAID's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 4 of 5 - Verifying unRAID's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 5 of 5 - Post-Read verification: FAIL # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ############################################################################################################################ # Cycle elapsed time: 34:00:15 | Total elapsed time: 34:00:15 # ############################################################################################################################ ############################################################################################################################ # # # S.M.A.R.T. Frank1940
If It were my drive, I would return it to the vendor as a DOA. It appears that the Current Pending Sectors is on a steady increase and that does not bode well.. Quote Link to comment
Phreaknes
I'm somewhat new to Unraid and I just built this server about 3 months ago. I got a 'new' 6tb drive and cable installed and everything was going great, then I got an error. I've searched the forums and reddit but not really finding an answer. I got a 'new' 6tb drive and cable installed and everything was going great, then I got an error. I've searched the forums and reddit but not really finding an answer. Can I just restart the read validation since the write is already done?
