July 24, 200916 yr Hello, I am interested in running Unraid on my file server. Currently my file server doubles as a torrent server as well. I have searched the forums on how to do this and it seems that a lot of people's solution is to run the torrent server on another machine. I am not interested in having 2 computers running for the server, therefore I am wondering if there is anything concrete on using rtorrent or utorrent directly with wine? Regards, Flixxx
July 24, 200916 yr You shouldn't have a problem using rtorrent, and if it has the features you need, it's the preferred solution. You could get from this post. I personally use uTorrent in a VMware machine, hosted on my unRAID box, only because I need the SOCKS support (I was previously using rtorrent for a few years before that). In either case, unless you have something like 4gb of ram, I would advice adding a drive to the server which is NOT part of the array, and on which you would define a swap partition or swap file, just to be on the safe side.
July 24, 200916 yr Author Hey Thanks for the reply. I prefer using utorrent because it has the RSS in it. I have 4 hard drives that will host the files(tb WD 32mb cache Green). I have a fifth 32 GB ssd drive and of course the USB Thumb drive with Unraid. Therefore, the 32GB SSD would be where i can install VMware with windows I suppose. I have a BOXD945GCLF2 (1.6 Dual core Atom) with 2GB of ram. You think you can guide me to some ressources on having a similar setup to yours? (Do you mind if I pm you also?)
July 24, 200916 yr Please keep the discussion here! I'm planning on setting up my unRAID server as a torrent server as well, and I think I would also prefer to keep using uTorrent (I too love RSS feeds). I will probably benefit from your trials. Thanks!
