Yea, I blame LT for the spending. :) Thank god my girlfriend isn't technical. Easy to make good excuses on why I need new hardware. Yea, that's terrible but a man has to do what he has to do!

I'm gonna run 100 VM's and 100 dockers. :)

Just kidding. That was a different photo then what I wanted to post actually. That will be my new home office build. The new unraid build will be similar, but not as excessive as that.

In a nutshell

Intel i7-3930k

Sabertooth X79

32GB ram XMP profile

And of course Seasonic or EVGA V2 PSU's.

Also the new processor I grabbed was an Intel i7-5930k V3 40 lane. Everyone had it for like $550+ so I went to MicroCenter one day and picked it up for $499 with %3.5 sales tax. They have really good prices some times. Even saw a 4TB HGST NAS drive for $139 in store only. And the SSD's were cheap as heck there. If I had more time I would have probably spent all day there.

I really wanted to get the Extreme Edition but for two more cores and $400 extra dollars I did control myself a little. You can get very confused when shopping for a processor. Since Intel has an Extreme in the new lineup with 8 cores lots of vendors advertise all the new Haswell's are 8 cores, but you have look closely and you'll see they are 6 cores on the non-extreme editions. I mean who needs to overclock something that fast anyway. I'm just looking forward to seeing how 2200MB/sec read speeds are. Never experienced that before. The Intel 750 PCI SSD drive is so new no one knows if it will last! I hope it does. It will get lots of use, so it will be in warranty.

My wife isn't technical but a shared bank account really doesn't help with this issue, so if you make an honest woman from her, keep a separate account!  ;D

A man always need some unaccountable money to buy it's toys; asking permission kills most of the fun.

Yeah, I didn't think it through, my new tactic is to buy stuff then tell her I had to as it was reduced, got £50 off a purchase of 2 X 4TB WD Reds the other day.

Doesn't help we're moving house and taking out an eye watering mortgage next week either.

This is so funny. Even across the big ocean men all think alike!

My girl may not be technical but she's no dummy. She knows exactly what's going on. If she sees me happy then she's happy. Can't get a better woman then that.

I just go out and buy her a new necklace or something and after I give it to her I tell her (softly) btw I got this part for the computer.

All I get in that case is "you wasted money twice!?!?!"  :o

For our 35th anniversary, I bought my wife a 3 1/2 carat diamond ring  ("for 3 1/2 decades of wedded bliss").  That was six years ago.    Anytime she thinks I'm spending too much on my toys, I just ask if I can see her finger ... and she quickly gets quiet  :) :)

I let my wife buy anything she wants and I get to buy anything she can't talk me out of. :D

An absolutely perfect arrangement ... we have essentially the same one  :)
