[Solved] Half of Shares have caution sign after upgrading to 6.

unRAID OS Version: 6.0

Description: Norco 4224, 16tb, 3tb parity, 1tb cache, Motherboard:Supermicro - X9SCL/X9SCM, Processor: Intel i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz. After upgrading from the latest 5 to 6.0 using the directions provide by Limetech some of my user shares show up with the yellow caution symbol saying "some or all files unprotected". Ultimately, this didn't seem like too much of a problem until I used Docker to add LimeTechs Plex Media Server (which I had been previously using in 5). Plex seems to work until I try and add content to the library. Clicking on "browse for media folder" I cannot find the server, my drives or my shares anywhere. I copy the same directory path I used before and it finds nothing. I'm assuming it has something to do with the problem with the user shares, but I'm not certain. All of this said, I can manually get to any file I want and play whatever media I need to. But not via Plex. Any help would be of great assistance. Please see attached syslog and image of what my shares look like.

How to reproduce: Thinking I must have done something wrong I reformatted the drive and started from scratch following the directions step by step. Same result. Then I did it again. Same result.

Expected results: What I expect is that there are no caution signs on my shares. And I should be able to add media folders into Plex from my shares.

Actual results: Caution signs on some shares. Plex unable to access shares.

Other information I totally apologize if this should not be in Defect Reports. I also apologize in advance for not providing enough information, relevant information or formatting this whole thing in the wrong way.:

The some or all of your files may be unprotected generally means that they are sitting on your cache drive waiting to be moved to your array.  See here for a dicussion of that icon:  http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=40707.0

As far as plex is concerned, what are your container path mappings?  Post a screen shot of the add container screen for plex.  You might also want to check out the docker FAQ as far as it relates to container paths.  In particular these two posts:  http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=40937.msg387520#msg387520 and http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=40937.msg387919#msg387919

Thanks for the quick response! I'm posting the picture of the mapping and starting to read the links you posted now. Thanks so much.

Um, also, (and maybe this should be a different thread which I'm happy to do) , regarding my user shares, another thing I just noticed is that when I click on a user share in 'shares settings' or when I create a brand new one it has a pull down menu for both included and excluded disks except it only gives me "Disk 1" and "Disk 2" even though I have six disks. What gives? (I attached what this looks like)

Okay. I'm going to read those posts. Thanks.

The reason why you're not able to see any of your shares in plex is because you have not mapped any of them to your container.  Those two posts should help.  But if you find it really confusing, use the second one as a guide although the first is the preferred method .

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Squid, you are absolutely correct. I mapped them out all sophisticate like and it worked like a charm. BUT then I realized that it wasn't scraping any info from TVDB the MovieDatabase or ANYTHING. I began researching and found that my container didn't have access to the internet. ???? SO I went back and used /mnt and now it all works fine and dandy... But can you tell me, how would I normally map my container to have access to the internet?

In reply to JonP:  In global setting it says ALL disks are included. Excluded disks are NONE.

So can someone tell me why in ALL of my shares it says the only disks I can include are Disk 1 and Disk 2 when I have Six Disks?

For internet connection issues, a lot (but not always) of the time, setting a static DNS address (something like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) under Network Settings solves it.  Mapping /mnt would have nothing to do with this

It looks like you have created a user share with the name "disk 2", this will interfere with the standard disk sharing. Delete the offending user share.

And one more step...

Stop your array and goto "Global Share Settings". Check that under Included/Excluded disks there are NO DISKS checked.

bonienl, I assume you think I created a user share called 'disk 2' given the fact that in the pic one says "Disk 1" and one says "disk 2" with a lower case. However, this is not the case. I've attached a pic of my User Shares and Disk shares. I don't know why it shows an upper case 'd' and a lower case 'd'.

Still looking for an answer regarding my user shares saying there are only two of my six disks.

Regarding Global Settings, there were no disks checked (hence it saying ALL disks are included and excluded disks are NONE.)

Any thoughts? By the way, this is the way it was when I upgraded to 6 without me touching a thing on Global Settings OR User Shares.

Also, thanks Squid regarding DNS settings. It's working now, but if I have problems in the future I'll give that a try.

This is indeed the suspicious part. It should list all names with a starting capital D letter. I am wondering if there is some file corruption, have you tried to do chkdsk on a windows system to see if there is any corruption on your flash drive ?

I haven't done chkdsk. Is there a reason it needs to be done on a windows system? I have mac. But I also have access to windows.

I am referring to a Windows machine cause most people have one, I don't use a MAC myself, but I am pretty certain a similar utilty exists on MAC to do a disk check and repair (FAT32).

  • 3 months later...

Thanks to all who helped. I got it back in working order. I did everything that was asked and the drives seem to be working great. (now if i could just fix this issue with my SAS Cards (2x Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8). I can only use one at a time for some reason).

Thanks again.
