jeffreywhunter
Other than looking at the cache drive in Main, is there a utility or command that can display the status of the Mover when its operating? Quote Link to comment
BRiT
tail -n 42 -f /var/log/syslog then hit control-c to stop watching the syslog. The '-n' is the number of past lines to display. The '-f' means append output as the file grows. It's also similar to the [Log] button on the Web UI. http://tower/logging.htm?title=Log Information&cmd=/usr/bin/tail -n 42 -f /var/log/syslog 2 Quote Link to comment
jeffreywhunter
Very helpful. When I saw the tail, I realized I could just click on the Log from the WebGUi and watch progress. Exactly what I wanted to see. that said, I'm not seeing the used space decreasing as mover progresses. http://my.jetscreenshot.com/12412/20150627-84p5-40kb.jpg Shouldn't that decrease and freespace increase as mover operates - or will it only free up the space when complete? Why I ask this is I was curious how cache works for continuous operations. Say I'm moving more files that fits on the SSD. If i start the copy (to get the Fast SSD file transfer) to cache, then immediately start mover, would it be able to 'stay ahead' of freespace. Essentially using the cache in both operations simultaneously. It probably would impact performance, but was curious if it would work that way... Quote Link to comment
jonp
It wouldn't decrease. Let's say the move failed half way through because the target disk filled up. You wouldn't want to lose the file, right? A move operation is really more like a copy then delete. Quote Link to comment
jeffreywhunter
So this is an interesting update. I've stopped moving files and was expecting the cache drive used space to decrease. Instead I'm saw the opposite even after file transfer stopped. The webgui log shows a steady stream of file activity... http://my.jetscreenshot.com/12412/20150627-jfxz-225kb.jpg With no files being added, cache appeared to be getting full? was - http://my.jetscreenshot.com/12412/20150627-84p5-40kb.jpg now - http://my.jetscreenshot.com/12412/20150627-5x3o-102kb.jpg But what it appears is that the cache used/free display lags behind operations. Its now getting smaller. So I assume that the cache used space is only updated periodically and not real-time. Is this correct? Quote Link to comment
rutherford
Doesn't look like this is current any longer, 6.6.7..? Quote Link to comment

Timbiotic
I can’t monitor so how do you know when done? Also I couldn’t tell it was going so I started mover twice... Quote Link to comment
Squid
If the button was reenabled then the move was done Quote Link to comment
trurl
You can turn on mover logging in Settings-Scheduler 2 Quote Link to comment
riddler0815
Is there a possibility to monitor the status of the mover? In the syslog there aren't any messages according to the mover. The "mover-button" in the main-tab will be reenabled, but it would be great to know how long it will take. Something like the copy-process in Windows. Thank you. 5 Quote Link to comment

dopeytree
What should you do when mover seems to have 'crashed' but the move button is still greyed out? If I reboot it'll likely trigger a parity check. have turned on mover logging and nothing to do with mover is in the syslog.. Quote Link to comment
Russ Uno
Is there a command I can use in a user script to check if Mover is running or not running so the script can do something else....? Quote Link to comment
mick kae
You can enable the move logs under settings -> Scheduler -> Mover logging Quote Link to comment

Not on a regular use. It tends to be very verbose and will spam your logs. Quote Link to comment
