Spam duo

Featured Replies

Thought others might like to see the first occurrence of a spamming user duo, a tag team approach, found here (posts now removed, users banned).

At first glance, looks innocent.  But then something seemed suspicious about the advice (HDMI over long wireless? is that worth viewing?), so I looked closer.

* Both users were new this morning, within a few minutes of each other, and only one post each, only a few minutes ever on forum

* The email of answerer is hdmiextender68 @ gmail.com, rather suspicious considering the web site he's recommending!

* Then I discovered both listed on the Stop Forum Spam database and search tool, an absolutely outstanding resource for checking names, emails, and IP's.  This isn't the first time for them, and they have several names, same email.

* Then I discovered that both users had used the same IP!

The spammer opens one user account, asks a leading question, opens a second account, and answers the question with the spam, with their web site.  Something new to watch for now!  I left the posts up for others to see, but banned the 2 users.  What's funny is they are so new to this, they badly butchered the web site URL, so it doesn't work!  The next spam duo will probably be better.

XenForo has support for Stop Forum Spam directly and the users wouldnt have even been able to register.
