Installing VM on drive not in array

Featured Replies

So, I've got 4x4TB HD's in an array (3 data, 1 parity). I'd like to install my VM on a drive connected to that server but not in the array. It's just an old 80GB IDE drive I've got laying around, mostly used to house the plex server stuff so my main drives aren't spinning up and down constantly. I'd much rather the wear be on the old hard drive and don't care if it fails without a backup. When I try to install a VM on that drive outside the array I get the following error:

Any ideas on how to circumvent this? VM's work on drives in the array on this computer.

I would mount the drive to something other than disk    i have a SSD drive that i use just for dockers outside the array and i have it mounted at /mnt/Dockers  I think having the mountpoint disk is what is messing you up

How would I go about doing that?

How are you mounting the IDE drive now?

I appreciate the response but I found and managed to install the "Unassigned Devices" plugin, so all is well now! I've got my VM's installed on the IDE hard drive, and I'm happy. Thanks!

That is exactly what i was going to suggest you get the Unassigned Devices plugin :)  glad all it working for you now.
