[solved] Where'd the user shares go

Featured Replies

Searched the forums but couldn't find anything relevant. 2 servers, same problem: No way to create a user share in 6.0.1

Upgraded a 5.bsomething to 6.01 by throwing away all settings, making a clean install of unraid, and firing up the server. Works fine but it won't show existing root level folders (shares) or allow me to create a new one (all the data is safe, and i can access each drive individually)

On a separate testing microserver, did a fresh clean install on 4 precleared 1tb drives. again, after the server starts, i can set up drive shares, but the GUI to set up user shares is missing.

Am I overlooking something obvious?

thanks!

Settings -> Global Share Settings -> Enable user share -> Yes

Hae you turned on User Share support under Settings->Global Share Settings?

That fixed it.

Seems kinda silly that file server software ships with a hidden option that enables major functionality, and it's OFF by default.

Why?  A significant number of people do not use that option.  Other optional unRAID functionality is off until enabled so it is consistent.  It is also mentioned as a setting you want to check in the wiki article covering upgrading to v6 from v5.

It was the same in v5 so this is not new behaviour.

Starting with next release (6.1) we are enabling this by default.  We also added a new config setting that controls whether disk shares are exportable or not.  Watch for the 6.1 release announcement for more information.

Sounds great. Especially looking forward to the setting for setting disk shares as non-exportable!

As for enabling user shares by default, will it only affect new configurations? Or will the vocal group currently running without user shares by choice have to disable them after upgrading? (Sorry for completely ignoring "Watch for the 6.1 release announcement for more information." ;D)

I presume you know you can already set them as non-exportable by simply clicking on the disk on the main GUI page.

In version 6 this has moved under Shares -> Disk Shares

Yes, I'm fully aware of that, that's what I do. But thanks for pointing it out just in case!

It's just that I tend to forget this when adding new disks... And it is also slightly annoying to do it for every disk when setting up a new server. Did I mention being lazy?  ;D
