July 23, 201510 yr Hi all, recently I've been considering installing unRAID on my home NAS but the licensing options have been confusing especially due to the change between v5 and v6. I expect my box to have at most a max of 4-5 drives only including a cache drive. Does that mean I will still have to splurge $59 USD on a basic license? Thanks for clarification and sorry if this is the wrong place to post this!
July 23, 201510 yr Community Expert Yes. There is no FREE unRAID 6. The only thing free is a limited-time trial.
July 23, 201510 yr Community Expert Also note that the device limit includes parity, cache drives, array data drives, and any drives that you might want to connect to that are not part of the configuration, such as external USB drives.
July 23, 201510 yr Not to mention the old free version only allowed 2 data disks to be parity protected, so you would have had to pay for it anyway, so you are actually saving $10
July 23, 201510 yr Author Thank you all for the responses! What is the limit of the time trial? I can not seem to find this anywhere. It came as shock that I would have to drop roughly $80 in local currency just to try unRAID out.
