July 23, 201510 yr I recently upgraded to a Supermicro MBD-X9SCL-F-O With a Xeon 1270 v2 and EEC memory. Everything was going great until I got ready to setup video card pass throught to my windows gaming VM and realized the board doesn't have a PCEe x16 slot!! I can return the board so I'm going to do that, now I need a reccomendation for a new board that will work with my cpu, and hopefully memory, although it wouldn't be horrible it I had to forget the memory and switch to regular ram. What kind of board would you guys recommend for me?
July 24, 201510 yr Author Any thoughts on the ASRock c216WS? http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=C216%20WS#Specifications I has most of the features of the SuperMicro and can take non EEC memory, Can anyone tell me if everything for VMs with pass through will work with this board?
July 25, 201510 yr The AsRock doesn't support IPMI. You do NOT want to use non-ECC RAM ... why build a fault-tolerant server and not use error correcting RAM? I don't know if pass-through works or not with the board, but both the chipset and the CPU support it, so I'd assume it will.
July 27, 201510 yr Author Well, I ordered it Friday, so I'll post the results here just in case anyone else is ever considering the board.
