Supermicro C2SEA Not Recognising USB Key as Bootable

Featured Replies

I just upgraded my system from the original Intel board to the Supermicro C2SEA mb. I set the Bios to boot from the USB port and it recognised the USB key, but when I try to restart I get a message "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media into selected boot device". I didn't make any changes to the key when I shut down the old server.

I have 2 Sata drives and 10 IDE drives

My settings are Boot Device Priority 1st boot device  USB:SandisK Cruzer, 2nd boot device Disabled.

Also, for the SATA settings, under Advanced, IDE Configuration, Configure Sata#1, should I set that to AHCI or IDE?

Any help with the settings would be appreciated.

Thanks.

PS.  I've been trying various settings, Forced FDD, turning off HISPEED, etc. I'm beginning to think that the Bios just doesn't recognise the USB Key as bootable.

I've tried running SYSLINUX.EXE -MA on it (version 3.82) but it didn't help.

Have you tried a different USB port?

Yes, I've tried all 4 usb ports on motherboard. In the Bios I have the usb configuration set to the default 12 ports and 6x6. I am going to try changing it to just 4 ports and see what happens, but I won't be able to do that until later tonight.

Edit - I worked on this some more and I've made progress. By setting the usb configuration to HDD I was able to start unRaid. I do still have a problem with unRaid not seeing the IDE drives hooked up to the motherboard, but I'll start a new thread for that.
