August 11, 200916 yr I had 2 drives die in the last week, and both were Seagate warranty returns (green border) in two different machines. One was a 500 and one a 750. I'm almost wary of putting these refurbs back into service now. What are other experiences with these? Did I just get a bad batch?
August 11, 200916 yr You need to Obtain a SMART report for each, to fully understand what their current status is. Also, what were the details, symptoms, error messages concerning their 'demise'?
August 11, 200916 yr Did I just get a bad batch? They were refurbished for a reason. I would never use a refurbished drive without some form of parity or raid protection. I can't say it's a bad batch because they are different models. However I would never purchase more then one refurbished drive at a time considering how often drives manufactured around the same timeframe fail shortly within one another. Check the dates. As Suggested, Check the S.M.A.R.T. values and/or do short and long tests.
