Possible to remove a drive without physically removing it?

Recommended Posts

I need to remove a drive, I have prepared this drive for removal by moving all the data to another hard drive. So it is currently empty.

The only instructions I find online for drive removal is to move everything off, shutdown the machine, physically remove the drive, startup and then rebuild the parity.

I don't have anyone at the location of the machine that could physically remove the drive for me. Could I just unassign the drive and rebuilding without having to shutdown/remove/startup..etc?

Yes. Whether you physically remove the drive or not, you will have to do a New Config, which will require you to reassign all your drives. Make very sure you assign the parity drive correctly. You don't want to end up like this guy.
