Original request lost in the mists of time.

 

The idea is that once you have filled a disk you can optionally set it read only. The theory holds that many users will have data that never changes greater than the size of one or multiple disks.

 

This option would allow users to organize a disk worth of data and finalize it as read only removing the risk of data loss through accidental actions to zero.
