max temperature on enterprise hdd (seagate es) ?

Featured Replies

I never use/own enterprise HDD before.

Nevertheless, I saw promotion on local shop

I bought ES 4TB (ST4000NM0033).

Just installed yesterday, speed is great, preclear shows no bad sector.

But temperature is what bothering me.

for comparison

WD green 2TB                    30-36C

WD red 3TB                      29-37C

seagate ES                        30-50C

I have 12CM fan blowing the HDD. (coolermaster 4 in 3 case)

even WD black on my main PC hardly see 41C during stress test.

Is it normal for enterprise HDD or ?

Thank you.

Yep, enterprise drives are set up for performance.  I have some Toshiba MC04 5TB Enterprise drives that I don't use, because they run very hot and are very, very noisy.

WD's RE line run warm too, which would be the equivalent to your Seagate ES.

4x12cm + 1x20cm fans are louder, so noise isn't complain for me.

so 50C is normal during stress test/preclear ?

considering max operating system is 60C. (even WD red have max at 70C)

Will SMART shows warning/failure if it reach 55C like WD green ?

I should just get another RED  ???

I changed the max temp to suit my drives...I think the defaults are set a little low.

changed max temp ?

How do I achieve that ? Google doesn't show much help.

Go to Display Settings on UnRAID and you can set the warning and maximum temps.
