TexasDave
Hello, I am trying to decide whether to install the Plex Media Server on my unRAID server or my HTPC. unRAID server information is in my sig (below) HTPC is running: i3-4330 @ 3.5 Ghz. 8GB RAM, 64 Bit Windows 7, 120GB SSD House is wired for Cat5E. Any thoughts or advice on the system to use? I prefer to use the unRAID server if it makes sense. Also - is there a preferred / stable version of the Plex Media Server that most folks use for unRAID 6? Thanks! Link to comment
CHBMB
If your media is on the Unraid server then that's the best place for it. HTPC is a client.. Simples Linuxserver.io is the version of Plex I'm using.. Also check out Emby also very good. Link to comment
spencers
Put it on the server, as that is where your media is located and also has the most CPU power. I've been using needo's Plex docker. Works like a charm! Link to comment
Hoopster
Definitely on the unRAID server. You have your media there (I assume), a better CPU and more RAM. I am using the Linuxserver.io Plex Media Server docker with it set to transcode media to RAM (also have 16GB on the server) and I access the media via TV smart app, web client from various PCs and from iPad and iPhone. The whole setup is very easy to use and the docker app really works well. There are several Plex dockers that work very well on unRAID. No need to setup an HTPC just for Plex (it would still need to access the media on the server). If you have other intended uses, perhaps, but, if it is just to access media on unRAID, put Plex on the server. Link to comment
