[Solved] Adding a new drive makes cache drive unmountable

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm trying to add a new drive to my server, but have hit what appears to be a roadblock. Just installing the new drive and restarting my unRAID box results in my cache drive being listed as unmountable - clicking on the cache drive in Tower/Main shows "unmountable - too many misplaced devices".

I'm not sure if this would all go away after I preclear the new drive and add it to the array; I just don't want to have my cache drive unavailable for a couple days.

Do I have to preclear on another box? Or is there something else I am missing?

Thanks,

Doug

Have you perhaps exceeded the device limit for your license?

Not yet.

parity + 2 data + 1 cache = 4

I am allowed 6.

I assume you mean you are allowed 6 because you have a Basic license, but that limit now applies to "attached" devices, not only assigned devices like it used to. Do you have any other attached devices?

I think I spoke too soon. When the array is started, you can't see how many slots are assigned. So I stopped the array and notice unassigned slots!

So I had 4 drives and 2 unassigned slots (not visible when the array is started). So I was over the limit.
