Movies and TV shows Pause then resume

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've been running my unraid server for a few months now, and since I set it up I have had issues playing back media to the HTPC.

When watching tv shows or HD movies (sometimes even low quality movies or even music) the video will stop the sound will continue playing then the video will fast forward until it catches up to the sound.

This happens about every 3 mins.

It still happens even with all the disks spun up.

I never had a problem with my old DAS so I don't think it's a hardware issue on the HTPC side.

I've experienced the same issue on both Vista VMC and windows 7 7MC.

I experience the same problem on both 4.4.2 and the beta.

I'm using media browser for Movies, MyTV for TV shows and standard media center player for music.

My HTPC and the unraid server are sharing the same gigabit switch both machines run lintel 100/1000 PRO nic cards

They get their IP addys from a netgear router witch is only 100meg

There seems to be errors for disk0 in my syslog but I don't know how to interpret them.

Can the unraid server be connected directly to the HTPC with a crossover cable?

syslog attatched

I have the same problem!  Would love to know if anyone has an idea.  It's driving me nuts.

I can only deal here with the syslog errors.  Your parity disk sde is reporting a cluster of Media errors with the UNC flag, indicating Uncorrectable sectors.  These are usually associated with bad sectors.  I would Obtain a SMART report first, then run a parity check, which I believe will force writes to the bad sectors, which should force the drive to remap or recover those sectors.  Then Obtain a SMART report again, and compare it with the earlier report.

I can't see any connection between bad sectors on the parity drive and pauses in your playback, so this problem is probably unrelated.

Thanks for your reply: Trying to obtain a SMART report, stuck at this step.

Because I'm running 4.4.2 I don't have the nessesary library, trying to follow this post to install the library:

"Once downloaded, and saved as cxxlibs-6.0.8-i486-4.tgz you can install it by changing to the directory where you downloaded it

(I have all my downloaded packages in the /boot/packages directory)

and typing  :

installpkg cxxlibs-6.0.8-i486-4.tgz"

"cannot install cxxlibs-6.0.8-i486-4.tgz: package does not end in .tgz"

I don't know the command to change directories, tried it from root, still no joy.

The command to change directories is

cd /boot/packages

Once you change directory to where you downloaded the file, you should be able to see the file in a directory listing if you type:

ls

I added some additional text to those instructions for installing the missing library for users like yourself who are not familiar with Linux commands.

That updated  post is here:
