Windows XP VM how do i deny internet access but allow local access for RDP ?

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm hoping someone can help me, i've created an XP VM in unraid which i would like to use to run some old applications. is there a way to configure it so i can RDP into the machine while at the same time only granting it local access on my network so i can avoid security risks ?

Kind Regards

Ryan

Don't add a default gateway

What about the DNS ?, i tried it with a static ip and subnet mask no default gateway and dns and i was unable to RDP to the machine

Moving this topic to the right board...

What do you use for a router?  Maybe you can deny access there.  In pfSense this can be done with a LAN firewall rule.

Shot in the dark here, cause I haven't created a vm using kvm yet, but I know from my experience with VMWare workstation that for the "no default gateway" trick to work, both computers have to be on the same vlan.  So if your connection is Nat'd for example, it will have to be changed to bridged.  No idea how to check this or change it in KVM.  In VMWare it's easy though.
