Emby + kodi VS mysql + kjodi heqdless

Featured Replies

I want to have a centralized database for all my kodi setups

However not sure which way to go

either 1. go headless kodi version from sparklyballs and mysql setup

or go 2. https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=41207.0

is there some sort of list for all (dis)advantages of both?

Which one is the best way to go?

So which way did you decide to go?

I am just starting out on trying to figure out mysql is the way for a Kodi data/ media sinking.  Or a different method.

i would go for mysql over emby for kodi.

then i would go plexbmc over emby for kodi

and then maybe as a last resort i would do emby for kodi

I do Emby for Kodi and it works great. No messing with databses is a big plus for me.

Happy Emby and Emby for Kodi user here. Love the ability to watch a movie or TV show while not at home via transcoding and have a resume point when I return home to my HTPC.

Can absolutely recommend Emby.

Used Plex aswell, but never really liked Plexbmc.

Had a mysql setup too, but the  big disadvantage for me was, that I had to use Plex while away and mysql at home. So my watch status was never in sync.

I think there is a way to sync status via trakt now, but could be wrong.

For me though, the big plus for emby is the ability to fix mis-tagged shows.  Open metadata manager, update imdb ID, refresh data, done.  For kodi you are messing with nfo files.

As for plex, I was trying to get plexbmc to work, but didnt like the integration and I liked kodi and its support for devices like an rpi and cubox.  If plex had this native support, it would certainly have a chance.

rasplex for the rpi worked great but its about a year since i last tried it

Oh yeah,  good point,  forgot about it. It used to give me issues and lose the SD card requiring a Reimage,  that's when I made the switch to kodi.

Plus,  I like the kodi plugins and skins.

But yes,  rasplex is an option
