Move disks/drives from one Unraid server to another?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have two UnRaid servers (for redundancy) and its time to upgrade my drives again.  They are all SATA, between 1.5 and 6TB.

Can I freely move the disks between systems, reassign them, then let parity be rebuilt?  (I know the largest drive on each system must be the parity disk).

Thanks,

Russell

Just be careful that you do a New config before adding a drive. If you don't, the default behavior when adding a new disk is to clear it!

If you don't have a parity disk assigned, what happens if you add a drive to an array? I'm genuinely curious, as I haven't tried it. It wouldn't make any logical sense to clear it, as parity isn't valid to start with, but does the code that tries to clear the drive take the lack of parity into account?

With no parity, I am pretty sure no clearing takes place.

I do a new config before moving the drives, right?  Is that still initconfig or is it in the GUI?

Thanks,
