Hi Guys,

after years using Unraid I get more and more HDD's

It sounds very cool to hear 13 HDD's spin up simultaneously but I don't want to blow up my Single Rail PSU :)

Soooo... does somebody know how to get it to work with this combination:

Sata disks (mostly wd red)

NORCO RPC-3116

SASLP-MV8

X9SCM-F

please tell me I dont Need another case :)

best regards

Christoph

Unfortunately you need to be sure the PSU can handle simultaneous spinups without a problem, because system start is not the only time it happens with unraid. If there is a read error on a disk, the rest of the array gets spun up to calculate what should be there and write that result to the erroring hard drive location. If that write fails, the system will red ball the drive. So, one of the critical array protection features requires that the PSU can handle simultaneous spinups. I would much rather the system not start at all rather than start staggered, and run out of power when a disk read fails.

If you are scared that your PSU is on the edge power wise, you need to upgrade the PSU. Very few things can cause as much havoc and data corruption and possible physical damage than a failing PSU.

maybe I am just a little bit to careful with my beloved unraid server :)

I have the following hardware:

Xeon 1220lv2 (17w TDP)

16 gig ram in 2 Bars

13 HDD's all 5900 rpm

2 SASLP-MV8

2 Norco fans, i removed the other 2..

boxed Intel Cooler

That stuff is powered with the seasonic ss-520GB

do you think I can fully populate the 16 slots in my Server or should I really stop :) ?

greetings

Christoph
