Where to buy "Asus P5B-VM DO" in UK? (or Best Alternative mATX Mobo?)

Featured Replies

Hey.

I'm new, decided that its about time I built a file server instead of adding more and more single drives to my HTPC!

I'm going to stick to the recommend Mobo and was looking at the Asus P5B-VM DO.

Does anyone know where I can find one in the UK? All i've found currently are the non "DO" version or "Refurbished" ones. I'm not really comfortable with getting a return mobo, Its a bit too important for that!

You probably won't find that board as it is a little old.  Take a look in the wiki at the hardware compatibility page and look through the list of motherboards there.  If you want the one that is currently used in LimeTech build then that would be the supermicro c2see board

I couldn't find a retailer that had the c2see board in stock in the UK.

Scan list it but they are out of stock no ETA.  All of the other sites I use regularly don't stock it.

Preferably I want a mATX board, so the  supermicro c2see is out of the running.

Any other suggestions?

I've been studying it for a good few hrs ;) Just thought people might know of similar boards or good ones off the top of their heads :)

The Asus P5KPL-CM looks pretty promising, that with a SATA PCI card.

Am I safe to assume that boards arent generally depreciated - i.e. with each new version of unRAID support for more boards/chipsets are added, but its unlikely that they are removed? Wouldnt want to find that in X months/Years time I've made a bad choice :)

I don't know of any time where support for a board/chipset was removed.

Didn't think that would be the case :)

Right, so unless anyone comes up with somewhere I can get the P5B-VM DO, i'll end this thread here and post again in the Hardware section when I'm about to pull the trigger on my build!
