8-Port SATA-Controller SYBA SI-PEX40071 - HDD-Size?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

just a short question about this controller mentioned above:

Is this Controller able to handle HDDs larger then 4TB?

This controller is marked as "working out of the box" at the hardware compatibility list

I found an info an the Syba-Website mentioned Disks with 3-4TB - but not larger  :o

The next question would be, if this is a recommendet controller for unRAID.

Any Info about this?

Thanks in advance  ;)

If it can handle drives > 2TB then it can handle any size you want ... 3TB, 4TB, 5TB, 6TB, 8TB, or larger (as they become available).

Since this is putting 8 ports on PCIe x2 it's not going to perform well on parity checks.

Thanks for your help - i see  ;)

@Parity-Check - doesn't matter - i only plan to put 4 Disk on this Controller  ;)

Since this is putting 8 ports on PCIe x2 it's not going to perform well on parity checks.

It's PCIv2, however, so there's 500MB/s bandwidth per lane = 1000MB/s total = 125MB/drive if all 8 drives are connected.

Not as fast as modern 1TB/platter drives are capable of, so it would indeed be a bottleneck if all connected drives had that level of areal density ... but with less dense drives, or fewer drives, it wouldn't appreciably slow things down.
