Server won't start at all

Featured Replies

Hi, I have an unraid server version 5.0.5. Everything was running smoothly until today when the Server suddenly wouldn't start. In fact it completed succesfully all BIOS checks and then a blinking cursor appeared on the left upper corner of the screen. All disks seemed to be readable thru the BIOS checks and no fatal errors appeared. Any ideas why could this happen? :o :o

Probably your BIOS is not trying to boot from the flash drive. If that's the case, and you haven't changed anything, then maybe your CMOS battery needs changing. Is your BIOS clock correct?

I have this feeling you are right.... bios time is wrong, so I guess that battery is completely drained. I'll replace the battery as soon as I can and I will let you know. :)

most BIOS have a key press (F8 and F12 seem to be most common) that brings up a list of devices to boot from.  This can be one way to check if the problem is the BIOS is losing the boot device you have set (which normally indicates a battery problem).

Having said that many BIOS try to be helpful and can reset the boot device settings if they think can something has changed.
