Replaced Parity during paritycheck Reg Drive failed new drive wont formatte

Hello All,

I've run into a little snag. Removed my Parity drive and upgraded it to a newer 5Tb drive. I went to do the parity build and during the process of it I had a 1.5Tb drive throwing errors out  Lots of errors. I chose to stop the parity build and check the connections and start again. It threw a red dot this time on that drive. I tried other past info I've learned here on here... the unplug, start, stop, plug the drive back in then start again. The drive went red again.

At this time I removed the drive and found that it is bad and out of date warranty. I had a spare drive to put in it's place i.e the old parity drive but this one is larger. I went from the 1.5Tb to a 4Tb. I restarted the computer and it came up and unraid wanted to format that drive. It said formatting and then after a bit I hit refresh and it was still not formatted like it has failed. I tried again but still failed.  Would you believe that went red also. I started thinking wow just my luck. I took that 4Tb and put it in for the same tests using Seagate tools windows and then Dos both on long test both times that 4Tb failed. Seagate said it's still under warranty so I sent it back. I've kept the server off for 2 weeks now and just got the drive again today. Mind you that parity is still not written to the new parity drive and this one drive is down. ugh

So now that the replacement 4Tb drive is here I placed it in the server fired it up and added the drive to the array. Unraid said it needed to format it so I pressed format and it didn't actually do it. It was still  not formatted. Now the drive I just put in is yellow but unformatted also the parity drive is yellow. All other drives are green and the system is on and waiting for me to repair hopefully with your help.

Any help in this matter would be so appreciated please.

I've included 2 logs one from the main page in the corner(log) and one from the utilities page which is what I remember using in the past for help.

Thank you for your help and your time in this,

Chris

There is no way to rebuild anything from your current state. Do you still have the 1.5TB drive?

I do have the drive. What can I do with it and How do I proceed?

Thinking this is where you were going with this I looked into reading the 1.5Tb drive in a windows machine.

I used http://yareg.akucom.de/ on Win 7 and it worked great.  It contains reiserfs so no need to download both.  You must run the exe as administrator.

The drive is letting me see it and says it's copying the data to another drive in my Windows 7 computer. Finders crossed this drive gives up all of it's good info before it decides not to.

So if I'm reading this correctly my next step it to use the "New Config" under utilities to create a new drive list?

Do I want to leave this new 4Tb out until it has gotten the parity check correctly then add the 4Tb drive if I want and copy back over the revived files from the old 1.5Tb drive?

Does that sound like the right plan?

Sounds good.

Thank you for your help. While I was doing the above stuff the server had another drive throw a red dot. So at that point I tried to see if it was the connections. Nope so I removed it just like the other 1.5Tb I placed it in a windows computer and transferred its content to another drive until the server is back up and running with a stable valid parity sync.

I then ran a new config on the server and woke this morning to a valid parity. I think I'm going to look into removing some more of the drives and go with some newer larger drives as it looks like I'm starting to do and keep a closer I on the system as a whole an see if the fans are holding up and lowering the temps enough.

Thank you for being here and for the help,

Chris

P.S. I'll Solve the title when I'm fully stable in a week or so.

Since you may still have some unresolved hardware issues, your PSU might be something to consider.

What is the exact model of your current power supply?
