Would there be any issue with DNS leaks if I ran win8 in a VM? I'd like to run a torrent/nzb client.

    I think it'd be easy enough to test.  If you use the public network bridge option, your VM gets an IP address from your router directly, and the network traffic for that VM should not be exposed to the host in any way that would result in a leak.  That said, I haven't tested this setup, so I'd encourage you to try setting up a VM, establish your VPN, then test it using one of the popular mechanisms out there.
