September 25, 201510 yr Wanted to get some community feedback before I begin tearing things apart to install a recent purchase. I have 2 systems, one unRAID and one main gaming desktop. Details of each below. Wondering what people think about the powersupply setup for both systems. I recently picked up a 750W platinum EVGA for a killer deal, figured it was time to replace my 8 or so year old Antec unit. (its working fine but, i tend to operate ahead of the "wait till it breaks" curve, when I can.) I know I run the systems under mfg "minimum required power supply" and PC wattage calculators, but I check the math on the connectors, rails, etc. All of those calculators involve a ton of headroom accounting for crappy supplies with low amps per rail, etc. Though, I post here to see about others thoughts on the subject. My unRAID currently sits around 100 watts idle, and full CPU/GPU's stress test I have touched 285 watts. Dropping that 660 in there could push me to about 420 give or take. unRAID: e3-1245v3 32GB RAM 1 7850 to a media VM Outgoing 6450 to a media VM Incoming GTX 660 to a media VM 9 HDD, 3 SSD 2, 5 in 3 bays PCIe sata card PCIe USB card Currently running on 450 watt Earthwatts plat, 1.5 year old Gamer: e3-1245v3 16GB RAM mini ITX Outgoing GTX 660, Incoming GTX 980 Currently running 500 watt Earthwatts, old The three supplies in question: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438057 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371054 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007
September 25, 201510 yr My initial thought is not to bother with attempting it, if what you really mean is still use all 3 power supplies but in 2 systems.
September 25, 201510 yr Agree ... I see no reason to swap either of your power supplies at this point. And, quite frankly, when you do, I'd use a unit smaller than 750w, as you'd be running a 750w unit well below the 80+ certified range most of the time.

And, quite frankly, when you do, I'd use a unit smaller than 750w, as you'd be running a 750w unit well below the 80+ certified range most of the time. Considering the EVGA 750 runs 83% at 75W, and the unRAID is 100W idle. There is very little to worry about being below 80% range. Select a quality power supply with 80+ Gold or better. If you can fine one at a lower cost and closer to your max demand, better for you. The 650W is actually $10 more than the 750W. But the 750W is not too much if the idle is 100W. I would stay above 550W since power supplies lose headroom as they age. It should be noted that the EVGA got it's 80+ Plat by reporting 220-240V [92% (115VAC) / 94% (220VAC~240VAC) or Higher Typical], but it works just fine on 110-120V. Swapping that old Antec to the EVGA may actually lower your power bill.
