Unable to to check for updates

Featured Replies

When I click on the "Check for updates" button the Plugin Update Check window comes up and it sits at plugin: checking unRAIDServer.plg ... forever.

It never does update. I'm also unable to update manually by copying the files to the Flash disk unless I shut down and put the flash drive in my windows machine. When trying over the LAN Windows tells me I need permissions to write to the disk.

It's been this way for several version of Unraid now, I can't remember which version it last worked with.

The logs aren't showing me anything helpful.

Sep 25 20:00:12 Bedrock emhttp: cmd: /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.plugin.manager/scripts/plugin checkall

Sep 25 20:03:01 Bedrock crond[1285]: exit status 127 from user root /usr/local/sbin/monitor &> /dev/null

The most likely reason is the there is corruption detected on the flash drive and it has been mounted read only.

Shutdown your Unraid server and remove your flash drive.  Insert the flash drive into your Windows system and the right click on the flash drive's icon, select Properties -> Tools -> Error check.  When it has finished eject the flash drive and put it back into your Unraid server and boot.

You should the hopefully now be able to run the upgrade check successfully.

Recent versions of Unraid has added support for fixing this problem automatically when it boots .... So hopefully you shouldn't need to do this in the future.

Thanks for the suggestion. Windows found no errors. Still unable to do updates.

Here's the logs from startup until attempting the update.

Headless server :(

I'll have to wait until I have time to drag it somewhere where I can connect a keyboard and monitor to check it.

Headless server :(

I'll have to wait until I have time to drag it somewhere where I can connect a keyboard and monitor to check it.

It is possible to change what option unRAID boots into even on a headless server.    If you edit the syslinux/syslinux.cfg file on the flash drive over the network (make sure you use an editor that can handle Linux style end-of-line) then you can move the `"menu default" entry to the section you want to be auto-booted.

It is possible to edit the syslinux.cfg file directly from within the browser. See Main -> Boot Device -> Flash -> Syslinux Configuration

This won't require any special editor...

But as the original post suggests he has problems writing to the flash drive from within Unraid, editing the config file from Unraid might not work .... He might need to do it on a PC.

Ok, I modified the syslinux.conf file via SSH and nano was able to save it. I restarted the system using the reboot command, and I can still not do updates from GUI. Also cannot write to the Flash drive over the network.

It has occurred to me that I have a USB Flash drive that I had MP3 files on that played on the radio in my car. It no longer works properly either, ever since updating my PC's to Windows 10 (these drives were used on 2 different 10 machines). I'm wondering if there's some weird file permissions issue in 10 that is messing up these flash drives.

Modifying syslinux.cfg does not appear to boot to Safe Mode.

Also, I have discovered what the problem may be, but not what is causing it. unRAID cannot ping any hosts on the internet. I've double checked the default gateway and netmask, that is not the issue.

When you say it can't ping, do you mean by IP address or by name? Try pinging 8.8.8.8 and see if you get a result.

Cannot ping by name or IP. 8.8.8.8 is unreachable.

I changed the menu default entry as per previous posts suggestion.
