Baddog377 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I have heard people talking about backing up their flash usb in case the thumb drive fails, sounds reasonable. but how is that possible when the license given needs the unique drive identifier, no other flash drive should work??? am i missing something?? If I am right what is the company policy for support if your os thumb drive fails?? Would you have to buy another license?? THX all.
Russ Uno Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Having a backup of the flash enables you to create a new flash from the backup, true the license won't work but at least you do not have to start from scratch. As far as the license you would need to contact Lime Tech for possible replacement. It's good to have an extra flash and license around if you can for experimental use, new versions of UnRaid & to quickly get back up and running, but not necessary.

You can copy your backup to a new USB stick, run makebootable, and when you start the server the first webgui page that loads walks you through transferring the license to a new stick. You can do this once a year, sooner than that you would need to email limetech.
Baddog377 Posted October 1, 2015 Author Posted October 1, 2015 Thank you all, I just wanted to make sure there was a procedure, at the same time I also understand the need for key control.
