I added a WD7500AACS, that was being used in another computer.  The new system sees the drive and lists under its HD list.

 

I have attached the syslog.

Since the drive worked in another computer, we will assume that it is good.  Therefore there is a problem with the interface between this drive and this system.  Try replacing the SATA cable with one known to work, then try a different SATA port, then check the power connection, perhaps try a different power cable known to work.  If still not working, check that it still works in the original computer, perhaps something in its connectors has become loose or bent?

 

A few things noted in the syslog:

* Replace the IDE cable to your 2 Seagate PATA drives (hda and hdb, Disk 4 and Disk 5), it is either bad or a 40 wire cable.  You will get MUCH improved performance to these 2 drives with a good, flat 80 wire ribbon cable (and they are cheap!).

* Check your Seagate SATA drives (sda and sdh) for the SATA150 jumper still installed, see the Improving unRAID Performance, Remove SATA150 Jumper section.

* If you ever decide to add more PATA drives using the second IDE connector, you will want to enable DMA to it in the BIOS setup.
