can't make a new user

Featured Replies

I am trying to make a user on unraid so I can access my secure shares from windows 10 and I read somewhere that you need to put the name of your computer then a / then the username of your account. So when I try and make a user gaming/kristopher the page just refreshes like it usually does when you make a user, but it isn't there.

Doesn't sound like instructions for unRAID. More like instructions for logging in on a Windows network. Where did you read that?

The help on the Add User page says

Usernames may be up to 32 characters long and must start with a lower case letter or an underscore, followed by lower case letters, digits, underscores, or dashes. They can end with a dollar sign. In regular expression terms: [a-z_][a-z0-9_-]*[$]?

Maybe this post will help with what you are trying to accomplish:

what I wan't to do is be able to write to my secure shares from windows 10. I usually use my mac to transfer files through afp but it would be nice to use my desktop while im sitting at it. So how am I suppose to set up the user so I can read and write to the share?

Did you read the post from Limetech I linked? I thought it was a very good explanation of how this works.

Ya I read it and tried it but when I try to log in, it just keeps saying access is denied. I made sure that I have read/write access to the private share also.

Also tried it from my mac and I can login and see the private shares with the user but can't rename the files. So maybe a problem on the unraid side?

In Windows, go to Control Panel - Credential Manager and delete any unRAID credentials so you can start over with logging into unRAID.

well I finally had some time to look into this and before I check the disks does it matter that some of my drives are different formats? Also is one formate better than the others? 4 of them are ReiserFS while two of them are xfs

I ran the check on the first disk and it came up with an error and it told me to run the rebuild tree command. I typed in --rebuild-tree like it said and then it asks if I want to run it and I type Yes in the box and click check and then this comes up.

No rebuild seems to be happening, am I missing something?
